Company History

Newelec was found in 1971 during the construction period of Iscor, Newcastle. It was given the contract by Cutler Hammer to install and commission all their control equipment for the class IV overhead cranes form 15 ton to 250 ton, as well as the blast Furnace No. 5.

In 1973 Newelec was appointed a Cutler Hammer distributor and also entered the electrical wholesale market, selling and construction material.

In 1978 Newelec Pretoria was established to manufacture electronic motor protection units which subsequently won the Telemecanique design award in 1982.

In 1983 Newelec Engineering was started.  Its main objectives being the design and manufacture of a control system for steel and mining industry.

In 1988 Newelec Engineering Pty Ltd change its name to Newcon Engineering C.C.

Today Newcon Engineering C.C. has grown into a multi-million rand operation under the capable management of :  J D van der Vyver.
